After working in the manuscript department at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, Quatremere taught Hebrew, Syriac and Caldian at the Collége de France at the beginning of 1891. This is the first French translation of al-Makrizi's Kitab al-Suluk Fi Ma'rifat Duwal al-Muluk.
