Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'The portrait is a process of distillation of the essence of the being whose only purpose is to preserve the aura of the individual.' Born in 1968 in Jiangsu, China, LiFang lives and works in Paris. Her figurative work, on the border of abstraction, deals with all the subjects of our daily univers…e: antonymous crowds in megalopolises, portraits of her entourage, scenes of idleness at the water's edge, current events (Chinese censorship, migrants). Her singular technique proceeds in large strokes: the bodies appear as sculpted blocks, right in the colored material. LiFang works in the same way on facial features, bodies and clothes. This unity of treatment and this refusal to individualize the characters transform the subjects into beings who, having no other consistency than that of the paint, send us back the image of our shared solitudes. Behind their apparent banality, his paintings express universal feelings: loneliness in crowds, the joy of bodies at rest connected to nature. By revisiting the subjects of classical painting, LiFang invents new codes to propose a contemporary vision of the beauty of the world. Timeless, light and deep, joyful and dramatic, LiFang's work is an open work. It offers the viewer the freedom to realize his or her own imagination while feeling part of the community of the living. This first monograph invites the reader to explore all aspects of her work. LiFang is represented by several galleries, including Galerie Boulakia, Red Zone Arts, SpArts Paris. The Cernushi Museum acquired three of her works in 2013.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. French text; Paperback; 22.5 x 28.2 cm, 1.2 kg; 240 pages with various colour illustrations; Used with signs of wear on the exterior and interior. The exterior shows edge wear, scuffs and scratches. Interior with minor signs of wear.; Catalogue for the exhibition held at…the Guimet Museum in Paris from the 24th of April to the 4th of September 2006, showing, for the first time, an exceptional collection of painted scrolls. The collection of Chinese paintings in the Musée Guimet houses an exceptional set of scrolls, imperial commissions that were destined to celebrate the important events of the reigns of the three great Qing emperors - Kangxi (1662-1723), Yongzheng (1723-1736) and Qianlong (1736-1795). The originality of this exhibition catalogue is that it intends to situate these imperial commissions in the wider context of the history of Chinese painting and other decorative arts that inherited the pictorial tradition. As such, nine painting scrolls from Musée Guimet are exhibited along with more than a hundred Ming and Qing dynasty artworks, including monochrome scrolls and album sheets, fans, prints, porcelain, imperial seal albums, as well as books relating to issues of perspective. Among the imperial scrolls, the readers will find a brightly painted artwork, in which the picturesque details abound. Building on a deep Chinese tradition, this painting exerted a strong attraction on Western artists in this period, which were called to collaborate on several imperial orders, such as the Jesuit painter Giuseppe Castiglione (1688-1766). Testimonies of his work with Chinese artists serve as a point of reference for the comparison between the two fascinating painting traditions, the Chinese and European.
