Mathieu Louis Anibert (né à Arles, paroisse Saint-Pierre-de-Trinquetaille, le 12 octobre 1742, et décédé dans la même paroisse le 19 novembre 1782) était un avocat, un poète et un historien arlésien.L'hypogée de Cordes, également appelé Grotte des Fées, ou Hypogée des Fées de Cordes ou encore Épée de Roland, est l'« un des plus impressionnants monuments mégalithiques de l'Europe occidentale ». C'est le plus grand des quatre et il est situé dans la partie occidentale et la plus élevée de la crête de la montagne de Cordes, en face du plateau du Castelet où se trouvent les trois autres hypogées.Il fut le premier à être exploré et documenté : Louis Mathieu Anibert (1742-1782), Dissertation topographique et historique sur la montagne de Cordes et ses monumens, J. Mesnier Arles 1779. La cavité mesure 42 m de long et s'enfonce à 4 m de profondeur. Elle a, en vue aérienne, la forme d'une épée médiévale d'où son surnom d'« épée de Roland ».
