Boldly written green ink signature of "R. Boyer" on front free endpaper; some soiling and glue residue on rear endpapers. Interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good… copy. Although unmarked as such, this book was acquired from the estate of Dr. Russell Aubrey Stokes (1922-2014) who earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1963 from UT-Austin under the tutelage of Hubert Stanley Wall. Stokes taught math for many years at the University of Mississippi where he established the department's doctoral program and was appointed professor emeritus. Co-developer of the Boyer-Moore string search algorithm, computer scientist Robert S. Boyer also matriculated at U.T. but, as I have not found an example of his handwriting, I will let the purchaser make an attribution to the ffep signature.

Robert Steven Ledley (1926 ââ?¬â?? 2012), professor of physiology and biophy…sics and professor of radiology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, pioneered the use of electronic digital computers in biology and medicine. In 1960 he established the National Biomedical Research Foundation (NBRF), a non-profit research organization dedicated to promoting the use of computers and electronic equipment in biomedical research. At the NBRF Ledley pursued several major projects: the early 1960s development of the Film Input to Digital Automatic Computer (FIDAC), which automated the analysis of chromosomes; the invention of the Automatic Computerized Transverse Axial (ACTA) whole-body CT scanner in the mid-1970s (wiki).
