Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the significant theological and philosophical ideas that influenced German society and literature from the mid-17th century through the mid-18th century. At its heart is a rich portrayal of Pietism, a religious movement which stressed personal religious experience, and Rationalism, a philosophical movement which emphasized reason and logic. The author skillfully traces the development of these ideas in major thinkers of the era, including Gottsched, Gellert, and Lessing. Along the way, this book also provides insightful analysis of literary works and cultural trends of the time, showing how Pietism and Rationalism shaped the intellectual and artistic landscape of Germany. The author argues that these movements had a profound impact on German culture, setting the stage for the philosophical and literary developments of the Enlightenment. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
