FROM THE DUST JACKET: "Dolly Blount Lamar has been a well-known figure in the affairs of the South for most part of her eighty-odd years, and this book presents the range of those affairs in the light of personal experiences from Reconstruction days down through the New Deal. her story begins with a brief account of her parents during the war years and then moves on to the trying period of Reconstruction. Her chapter 'Campaigns and Chinquapins' is a vivid narration of her father's efforts to gain a seat in the national congress in the years when disfranchised Southerners were struggling desperately to gain some voice in their own affairs."
