Walther Kossel (4.1.1888-22.05.1956), Physiker - Kossels Forschungsgebiet war hauptsächlich die Struktur der Atome und Moleküle. 1916 stellte er auf Basis der damals neuen Quantentheorie von Niels Bohr eine Theorie der Kovalenten Bindung (Valenztheorie) auf. Er erforschte die Spektren der Röntgen- und Gammastrahlung und begründete 1928 die Theorie des Kristallwachstums. Er entdeckte 1935 den nach ihm benannten Kossel-Effekt, die Interferenzerscheinungen von monochromatischen Röntgenstrahlen, die von Atomen in einem Kristall ausgehen.
