Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. She promised herself no more mysteries. The mystery had other plans.Twelve-year-old Marlo Finch just wants to be a normal student. After the traumatic events of Camp Velvet-where she found a body and exposed a dangerous fraud-all she wants is a fresh start at Darkwater Academy, the elite boarding school that offered her a scholarship. But normal doesn't come easy when you can't stop counting ceiling tiles at 3 a.m. When your notebook fills itself with observations you swore you wouldn't make. When the school's beloved headmaster seems a little too perfect. And when a teacher goes missing under suspicious circumstances.Reunited with her friends Theo and Mac, Marlo is pulled into a web of buried secrets, hidden graves, and an institution willing to protect its reputation at any cost. As the investigation deepens, so do the dangers-and this time, the people she cares about are directly in the crosshairs. With her sharp eye for patterns, a battered black notebook, and a mechanical pencil behind her ear, Marlo must decide how much she's willing to risk for the truth-even when the truth could cost her everything.Perfect for fans of Truly Devious, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, and Flunked. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. A missing trophy. Wet footprints with no source. A ghost who's been waiting sixty years to be found.Twelve-year-old Marlo Finch has no interest in summer camp. Shipped off to Camp Velvet while her parents' marriage falls apart, she plans to spend six weeks keeping to herself, filling her notebook with observations, and counting down the days until she can go home. But Camp Velvet has other plans. When a prized trophy vanishes from the director's office and strange wet footprints appear where no one has walked, Marlo can't help but investigate. Armed with her mechanical pencil and a sharp eye for things that don't add up, she teams up with three unlikely friends: Priya, who never met a question she wouldn't ask; Mac, a returning camper hiding grief behind an easy grin; and Theo, whose encyclopedic knowledge of everything comes in handy more often than anyone expects.Their search leads them to a decades-old mystery buried beneath the lake - the story of a girl named Ellie who vanished from Camp Velvet in 1962 and was never found. As Marlo digs deeper, she uncovers secrets the camp's director has been protecting for years, and realizes that solving the mystery means confronting truths that some powerful people would rather keep hidden.Part ghost story, part detective adventure, and wholly about the friendships that find you when you least expect them, The Vanishing at Velvet Lake is a story about paying attention - to the people around you, to the things that don't quite make sense, and to the quiet voice inside that says this matters.Perfect for fans of The House in the Cerulean Sea meets Spy School - with the heart of a Katherine Applegate novel. For readers ages 9-12 This item is printed on demand.
