Here is a collection of Joe Bayly's best-loved stories: The Gospel Blimp (which sold over 200,000 copies in its original edition); the famous Gooley stories; How Silently, How Silently the classic Christmas Parable; and others. "A long-overdue, embarrassingly accurate commentary on the feverish futility of too many sincere but pathetically misguided evangelical Christians. The power of this provocatively written, first-person narrative explodes unexpectedly as one breezes through the all-too-familiar situations." Eugena Price, Novelist.…

Hardcover/Hardback. Condition: Fair. What does a man say to God. .when he looks through an isolation window at his infant son, just back from surgery? .when he moves to a new job, or celebrates a success in life? These psalms of Joe Bayly's life express the emotions of ordinary living--one man's private response to God in times of crisis and grief, change, excitement, and 'the life that is so daily.' Psalms of My Life can help you look at life from a different perspective, through the eyes of a man who struggled and overcame, who reflected and rejoiced, who cried and laughed.…

Softcover/Paperback. Condition: Fair. A Voice in the Wilderness includes some of Joseph Bayly's most remembered work as well as lesser known selections. His gift for afflicting the comfortable is evident as he prods comfortable Christians in his "Out of My Mind" columns; the parables, including "How Silently, How Silently"; and the last sermon he preached, "Is Holiness Possible Today?" Equally powerful are his words that comfort the afflicted, including "When a Child Dies", and selections from The Last Thing We Talk About. Whether you've loved Joe Bayly's work for decades, or you're new to his writing, you'll find each selection as searching, timely, and fresh as when it was written--often ahead of its time. "Joe Bayly was my mentor and role model as a writer, thinker, and Christian. His influence--through his stories and his life (I especially remember Easter sunrise services in the Bayly backyard with our singles group)--continues to keep me determined to be utterly realistic and resolutely redemptive. - Marshall Shelly, Vice President of Editorial, Christianity Today, Inc. "If I could ad one name to the list of heroes in Hebrews 11, it would be Joe Bayly's. This book will remind you of what it means for a man to hold to a faith that everyone around him knows is the real thing." - Joel Belz, CEO, World Magazine and God's World Publications.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the origins of yellow fever, a deadly disease that has plagued humanity for centuries. The author, a renowned medical professional, delves into the historical debate surrounding the source of this enigmatic affliction, meticulously analyzing evidence and theories to challenge the prevailing notion that it is solely imported from foreign lands. Through rigorous examination of case studies and scientific research, the book presents a compelling argument that yellow fever can both be brought from abroad and emerge within our own communities. It sheds light on the complex interplay between environmental factors, such as contaminated air and putrefying matter, and the development of this dreaded disease. Ultimately, the book's insights provide valuable guidance for public health measures aimed at preventing and mitigating the devastating impact of yellow fever, emphasizing the crucial role of sanitation and quarantine in safeguarding human lives. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Cumberland's British Theatre, Volume XII. London: John Cumberland, circa 1825. An attractive early nineteenth-century volume from John Cumberland's extensive British Theatre series, containing seven separately issued plays bound together: Peter Bayley's Orestes in Argos; Hide and Seek; Tribulation, or Unwelcome Visitors; The Rival Valets; Roses and Thorns; Midas; and Beaumont and Fletcher's Rule a Wife and Have a Wife. The individual plays were issued with theatrical commentary, biographical material, cast information, and illustrations relating to contemporary stage performances. Orestes in Argos includes the engraved theatrical portrait of Mr. Charles Kemble as Orestes and records the tragedy's performance at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, on April 20, 1825. Handsomely bound in full dark leather with elaborate gilt decoration to both boards and spine. Boards feature broad ornamental gilt borders, while the spine is richly gilt in compartments and simply titled "PLAYS." Decorative gilt turn-ins, blue endpapers, and gilt page edges complete the binding. Binding remains firm and solid, with boards securely attached. Leather shows light-to-moderate rubbing and wear at edges, corners, and spine extremities consistent with age, but the elaborate gilt decoration remains unusually strong and attractive. Interior is generally sound with expected age toning and occasional spotting. Previous ownership markings and a decorative bookplate appear at the front. A particularly handsome small-format example of Cumberland's British Theatre, with a substantially more decorative binding than normally encountered.…
