Hardcover. Presumed first edition/first printing. Sewn binding. Cloth over boards. xx, 437, [1] p. Illustrations (some color). Footnotes. Bibliography. Glossary. Heraldic Items; Index to Narrative. From Wikipedia: "Military intelligence is a military discipline that exploits a number of information collection and analysis approaches to provide guidance and direction to commanders in support of their decisions. This is achieved by providing an assessment of available data from a wide range of sources, directed towards the commanders' mission requirements or responding to focused questions as part of the operational or campaign planning activity. In order to provide an informed analysis, the commander's information requirements are first identified. These information requirements are then incorporated into a process of intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination. Areas include the operational environment, hostile, friendly and neutral forces, the civiliana in an area of combat operations and other areas of interest. Intelligence activities are conducted at all levels, from tactical to strategic, in peacetime, the period of transition to war and during a war itself." Very good. No dust jacket. Almost no wear or soiling noted.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Military Intelligence contains both a narrative branch history and the lineage and honors for 108 Regular Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard military intelligence units-brigades, groups, and battalions, the echelons authorized distinctive heraldic items. Based on official records attesting to the history of the respective units, John Patrick Finnegan and Romana Danysh ably capture the organizational evolution of the Military Intelligence Corps. Mindful of safeguarding intelligence sources and methods, Finnegan makes no pretense at discussing the operational aspects and the complex interrelationships between Army intelligence and other organizations in the intelligence community. His focus is on the slow development and eventual emergence of professional Army intelligence organizations and functions. The lineage and honors complied by Danysh and the colorful heraldic items foster unit pride, thereby enhancing esprit de corps among the thousands of military intelligence specialists now serving their nation. The military intelligence story, a relatively unknown part of the Army's heritage, is a story worth reading. He was employed as a civilian by the National Security Agency and had military served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps. He went on to become a noted educator and academic. Late in his career he applied his knowledge, experience and scholarship as an archivist as the U.S. Army Cryptologic Records Center and as a History at the U.S. Army Center of Military History. It is believed that his final career position was as an historian with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command. Illustrates the multifaceted diversity of modern Military Intelligence (MI). Aims to portray both the continuities between the past and the present and the successes of the MI community today. Consists chiefly of photographs which represent the different intelligence disciplines and depict a representative sampling of the organizations within the MI community. The text has been kept to a minimum out of security considerations and out of a desire to let the photographs themselves tell the bulk of the story. It is hoped that the photographs selected do portray the diversity of military intelligence activities and their historical continuity.
