Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Dao of Flow is an appreciation of life - an illumination of three esoteric principles of embodying, flowing, and regulating water through one's personal journey and narratives of 'walking flowers' - people who walk the flow.Jin Young Lim was studying ancient philosophy when he delved int…o a philosophical investigation of his life to date-from his humanitarian work in Fukushima to studying in Tokyo, becoming a yoga teacher and Taijiquan instructor, and co-founding a non-profit in the Himalayas before moving to Beijing as a Schwarzman Scholar. Along the way, Jin Young met scholars, teachers, artists, philosophers, farmers, social workers, and spiritual leaders. In this book, he weaves classical texts into his experiences with Taijiquan, Daoism and Zen, tea, agriculture, conservation, art, history, geography, politics, and social economics. He captures his physical, intellectual, and spiritual journey in a series of incisive reflections, vignettes, and anecdotes that make it accessible in simple terms.Through these stories, Jin Young constructs a philosophical framework of Daoist principles that he calls 'The Dao of Flow'-a way of continuous transformation based on embodying, flowing, and regulating water. These same three principles recurred as patterns in the lives of his role models or 'walking flowers'-those who 'walk the flow' and do so beautifully and naturally like flowers. This book is an invitation to discover the wisdom of water and provides readers with a novel spiritual map to deeper harmony with oneself and the world. Includes Acclaim for Rise by Cara Brookins; Author Dedication; Preliminary Page Quote and Acknowledgments. Illustrate…d with a section of color photographic plates. "The real-life story of one family overcoming the unthinkable." -- from the rear outer jacket. "You will be enlightened. You will be inspired. You will cheer Cara on as she builds a new home and a new life -- one brick at a time." -- John Grogan. "Rise filled me to the brim with admiration, hope, and belief that a determined human can do practically anything." -- Martha Beck, bestselling author. "Amazing. readers will be both spellbound and lifted by it." -- David Morrell, bestselling author. "Telling a story like Rise takes guts. It also takes talent, which Cara has in spades." -- Laura Lippman, bestselling author. "The magnificent true story of a woman who, after losing everything, found a way to heal and build a new life. Cara Brookins escaped an abusive marriage with four children to provide for and no one to turn to but herself. In desperate need of a home but without the means to buy one, she did something incredible. Equipped only with YouTube instructional videos, a small bank lona, and a mile-wide stubborn streak, Cara built her own house from the foundation up with a work crew composed of her four children. It would be the hardest thing she had ever done. With no experience nailing together anything bigger than a bookshelf, she and her kids poured concrete, framed the walls, and laid bricks for their two-story five-bedroom house. She had convinced herself that if they could build a house, they could rebuild their broken family. This must-read memoir traces one family's rise from battered victims to stroner, better versions of themselves, all through one extraordinary do-it-yourself project." -- from the inner front jacket flap. Healey, Meghan Day (book design); Lim, Young Jin (jacket design); Murphy, Ashley (family portrait photograph) (illustrator).

Includes Author Dedication; Introduction; Acknowledgments and Index. Illustrated with a section of color photographic… plates. "Bob Harig's Tiger & Phil provides an in-depth chronicle of the decades-long rivalry that drove the success of golf's two biggest stars, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. For more than two decades, there have been two golfers who have capativated, bemused, inspired, frustrated, fascinated, and entertained us, and in doing so have demanded our attention - Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Even with all the ink that has been spilled on Tiger, no one has ever written about his relationship with Phil and how their careers have been inextricably intertwined. Furthermore, very little has been written about Phil Mickelson, who is more than just an adversary. He is a fascinating Hall of Fame golfer in his own right. These two biggest names (and draws) in golf have, for better and for worse, been the ultimate rivals. But it is so much more complicated than that. Each player has pushed other other to be better. They have teased each other and fought. They have battled to the bitter end on the course, making for some of the greatest moments in the game for the last 20 years. They have each gone through injury and health problems, legal problems, falling in and out of favor with the press. And over the course of their time together in the game they have gradually become not just rivals but friends. In the tradition of major bestsellers such as Arnie & Jack, When the Game Was Ours, The Rivals, and Brady vs Manning, Tiger & Phil will change the way we look at these players and the game itself." - from the inner front jacket flap. Lim, Young Jin (jacket design); Too, Kelly S. (book design) (illustrator).

Hardback. Condition: New. The Westphalian model of international relations has given us a zero-sum game of winners and losers that has proven to be ineffective in addressing the pressing issues of our times. Philosopher Zhao Tingyang has argued that by conceptualizing international relations from the planetary perspective of tia…nxia, we can develop a sense of "worldness" that at once acknowledges the plurality of moral ideals defining of the world's cultures and seeks practical ways to formulate a shared morality for the solidarity needed to bring the world's people together. In this spirit, political theorist Michael Walzer, in his Thick and Thin: Moral Argument at Home and Abroad, wants "to endorse the politics of difference and, at the same time, to describe and defend a certain sort of universalism." For Walzer "thin" morality does not mean minor or emotionally shallow morality; on the contrary, thin and intensity come together as "morality close to the bone." Turning to alternative philosophies, the contributors to this volume seek to move beyond liberal thinking on a minimalist ethic to include other cultural values-those of the Confucian, Buddhist, Indian, Islamic, Ubuntu, Japanese, European, and Jewish traditions. In order to reconceive of the world as a world, these scholars seek to formulate an answer to the contemporary challenge of a fragmented and failing Westphalian "internationality," and in so doing, to offer possible conceptions of a shared and practicable morality sorely needed at a planetary scale.
