Straight uncreased spine. -- The 10th volume of Classica Cracoviensia presents papers delivered during the international conference "Violence and Aggression in the Ancient World" (Cracow, 2005), organized by the Institute of Classical Philology of the Jagiellonian University and the Cracow Branch of the Polish Philological Association. The aim of the conference was to analyze the notion of terrorism in the Ancient Greco-Roman world and to show its range in political, social and religious systems of those times on the basis of still-extant literary, historical and iconographic sources. In total, 17 papers were delivered, of which 14 are published in the present volume. The volume discusses forms of political terrorism, ideological-religious terrorism, and terrorism connected with the interests of certain social groups, as well as of influential individuals. The papers explore group and individual motives behind the ancient terrorism, methods of action and the influence of terrorism on the consciousness of the societies of those times.
