Small hardbacks published uniform with Jack London's own titles by Mills and Boon. From the library of Crichton Porteous, Derbyshire based author of "Farmer's Creed", "Land Truant" and other fictional, biographical and topological works celebrating the traditions of Country Life and Hill Farming in particular. (I wrote an 80th birthday tribute for Derbyshire Life and Countryside journal; now I have passed 80 myself). These volumes were cheaply produced using cloth-effect card covers and paper that has inevitably browned. A piece is missing from the top of the spine of Voyaging, which also has rubbed joints. Southern Seas is in a better quality binding, not quite uniform with the other two, and has ornamental borders to the fixed endpapers, with "Ex Libris" added on the Front E.P. Below his signature Porteous has written 49, 49 and 22, the latter in Voyaging which presumably gives a latest date for the printing of the two uniform volumes. All these volumes are exceedingly rare, cheaply produced before the advent of paperbacks, and having been treated as throwaway items, like many "Airport Read" paperbacks today. …

First printing, octavo size, 370 pp. Jack (John Griffith) London (1876-1916) remains a highly beloved author and his stories are still widely read today; beginning his career as a newspaper reporter, he gained fame with the publication of "The Call of the Wild" in July of 1903, and would eventually write over twenty novels and numerous short stories before dying tragically young from complications arising from previous illnesses, including scurvy. This work, written by London's second wife, Charmian, recounts their time in Hawaii between 1907 and his death; before he died, he helped her edit the text.
