SI Edition (1971) is from that glorious age when maths textbooks: Assumed you owned a slide rule Expected you to show your working in pen And believed, quite sincerely, that a few hundred pages of algebra, calculus and trigonometry were good for your character This is pure mathematics, in the sense that there is very little padding and absolutely no hand-holding .
