In-8° (17 cm x 10 cm). Cc. CCCLXII, (4), 1 c.b. Segnatura: a-z8, 2a-2z8, [+]4. Bella e solida legatura lionese abilmente reinserita utilizzando gli originali piatti cinquecenteschi, un grande ed elaborato "fleuron" (4 cm x 3,5 cm) impresso in oro al centro di entrambi i piatti bordati da una singola cornice lineare interna dorata e due altre a secco esterne. Raffinato frontespizio con, al centro, una grande e raffinata xilografia (7,8 cm x 6,8 cm) raffigurante i Papi della storia che visitano l' Autore nel suo studio intento a compilare questa sua opera. Una piccola ed insignificante piccola porzione di carta bianca asportata in passato abilmente restaurata. In calce nota di possesso manoscritta da mano coeva e due altre, la prima alla carta [+]4(v) e la seconda al recto della carta bianca finale. Carattere romano. Numerose iniziali xilografiche. Qualche piccola goretta alle prime cc. iniziali e due piccoli forellini di tarlo abilmente restaurati all' angolo inferiore interno bianco delle ultime due carte; peraltro esemplare in più che buono stato di conservazione generale in bella legatura. Rara edizione di primo '500 di questa celebra cronaca dell' illustre umanista cremonese nativo di Piadena, da cui prese il soprannome. In particolare nell' opera l' A. fece i conti con Paolo II che, oltre a perseguitare gli umanisti Pomponiani, lo aveva fatto carcerare e gettare nelle segrete per ben due volte torturandolo con l'accusa di cospirazione. La prima volta per aver espresso in una lettera al pontefice (pur inviata sotto il falso nome di Ognigene) il risentimento degli abbreviatori sciolti dal Papa, riacquistando però la libertà per intercessione del cardinale Gonzaga (1465); la seconda volta (1468) per le accuse di eterodossia, di paganesimo, di comportamento immorale e di cospirazione ai danni del papa, di cui furono vittime più esponenti dell Accademia romana.
