Rhodes where she compares the thrill of real world discoveries in computing to the false thrills of those she sees reading science fiction. "The first electronic computer symposium held on the west coast of the United States." Among those presenting papers were Harry Huskey, Ida Rhodes, and Nathaniel Rochester. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank M. Verzuh was an MIT Professor and long-time employee. Involved in digital computing from its earliest days, he attended the famous Moore School lectures in 1946, worked on Bush's Rapid Arithmetic Machine and various differential analyzers before and during the war and helped to design the Rockefeller Electronic Calculator, a small digital computer. Professor Verzuh taught MIT courses on computing, and became Assistant Director of the MIT Computation Center, a post he held for many years. During his tenure the Center prototyped a number of significant machines in the history of computing.
