Second Edition, Limited to 550 copies of British naval commander, Sir Hovenden Walker's account of his failed attempt to capture the city of Quebec in August 1711, for…which he was peremptorily dismissed from service. It is based on memory, a pocket diary, and various letters and documents supplied to him by the secretary of the Admiralty, Josiah Burchett (most of Walker's original books, journals and charts from the expedition perished in an explosion in 1711). Admiral Walker led an abor…tive 1711 expedition against Quebec City, then the capital of New France during Queen Anne's War (Part of the French and Indian Wars). Walker's account "of his unfortunate 1711 expedition against Canada, which operated from Boston and was of New England's instigation. Having distinguished himself in the West Indies, he was placed in command of the naval forces. Ill fortune attended the enterprise, eight transports being cast away and nearly 900 soldiers drowned.The expedition was a total failure" (Lande). After the Whigs came to power during the reign of George I, Walker's conduct during this expedition was reopened. He was summarily struck off the flag list and he was ordered to furnish the government with a full account of the disaster.
