Die Annahme, die EU werde lediglich als Rückzugspunkt und für die Planung und Organisation von Anschlägen genutzt, wie z.B. Hamburg von den Attentätern des 11. Septembers, verlor ihre Grundlage.Noch im selben Jahr machten der Mord an dem Islamkritiker Theo van Gogh in den Niederlanden und im Sommer 2005 die Anschläge in London deutlich, dass islamistische Fundamentalisten nicht nur in ihren muslimischen Heimatländern sozialisiert und radikalisiert wurden, bevor sie nach Europa kamen, sondern dass auch von in Europa geborenen und aufgewachsenen Muslimen eine Gefahr ausgehen kann. Natürlich handelt es sich bei diesen um eine extrem kleine Minderheit unter den circa 8-12 Millionen westeuropäischen Muslimen. Doch ist es wichtig, diese Gruppe der so genannten Homegrown Terrorists näher zu betrachten, um zukünftige Anschläge nicht nur durch gute nachrichtendienstliche Arbeit, wie im Fall der so genannten Sauerlandgruppe, verhindern zu können. Deshalb werde ich in meiner Arbeit erst die Bevölkerungsstruktur der Muslime in ausgewählten europäischen Ländern erörtern, um im Weiteren Gründe für die Radikalisierung muslimischer Jugendlicher in Deutschland sowie die Art ihrer Rekrutierung für den bewaffneten Djihad zu diskutieren. Abschließend werde ich im Fazit versuchen, Vorschläge für eine bessere gesellschaftliche Einbindung von Muslimen in Deutschland zu diskutieren.
