Plates of Indian buildings and drawings by Hankin of the different types of geometric decoration and how the designs are generated. One of the earliest attempts to investigate "penrose tiling". Hankin was a bacteriologist by profession working in India who was credited with being one of the first discoverers of bacteriophage activity in the Ganges and Jumna rivers. He also wrote on bird flight and aeronautics. Signed on the front cover by Hankin who presented this copy to Eileen Power, of Girton College, founder of the Economic History Review, who visited and wrote on Europeans in India.
