Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Minor edge and corner wear; no dj; lightly scuffed and scratched; corners are gently bumped and rubbed; some light shelf wear; ex-library with the usual library markings; overall a nice used copy! Very rare and hard-to-find title! Full-color pictorial boards with black lettering. 250 hist…orical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white and full-color photographs and illustrations! Extremely scarce and out-of-print first edition! "We are examples - we are using ourselves as examples. This book can be seen as that. It's not only the diagnosis, the treatment, the aftermath of it - it's also our lives after. The book - the physicality of the book, the fact that we are making it - is evidence of life after cancer. Going through the process of the book - the complexity, the layers, going through it step by step until you get through it - is analogous to the cancer treatment. If you looked at everything you were going to go through with cancer treatment, you probably wouldn't do it. But, you do it step by step. It's the same thing as the book. When Dr. Peterson told me I had it and I said 'I feel like Dante' - we're coming back up now. We went down into hell but now we're working our way up and out into a new life.".

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first impression of numbered edition of 550 copies 1 -25 an especially bound signed edition of which this is no10. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR IN FAINT BLUE INK, ON SPECIAL NUMBERED EDITION PAGE, AND ALSO ON TYPEWRITTEN LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR TIPPED IN. Some slight edge wear…to top and bottom of covers and spine, some grubby marks to back cover, no price, signed, dated, typewritten but hand signed letter tipped in (addressed to David W. Copley on June 28th 1949), explaining that the author couldn't personally handwrite because he was suffering from eye strain, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 89pp. 12 essays most of which appeared in the Illustrated London News between 1936 and 1950, of a personal character and with a connection to the author's work as a historian. Sir Arthur Wynne Morgan Bryant (1899-1985), was an English historian, columnist for The Illustrated London News and businessman. His books included studies of Samuel Pepys, accounts of English eighteenth and nineteenth century history, and a life of George V. Whilst his scholarly reputation has declined somewhat since his death and his views are no longer fashionable, he continues to be read and to be the subject of detailed historical studies. He moved in high government circles, where his works were influential, being the favourite historian of three prime ministers Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, and Harold Wilson. Bryant's historiography was often based on an English romantic exceptionalism drawn from his nostalgia for an idealised agrarian past. He hated modern commercial and financial capitalism, he emphasised duty over rights and he equated democracy with the consent of 'fools and knaves'. Bound in tan and rawhide effect by Evans of Croydon, paper hand made by Portals of Whitchurch (illustrator). Signed by Author(s).
