With seven portraits and a map as frontispiece, collated and complete. With a supplement to the rear containing a memoir of Hamilton Davey. In 1899, Davey met ornithologist A.O. Hume, who accompanied Davey on the tours of Cornwall and Devon prompting him to begin this major work. Pages have been transposed from the original publishing using a layout of four pages and two columns per page. In the publisher's original cloth binding, found in the price clipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with just some shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. Lightly foxed to the rear of the wrap, to the endpapers, and to the title page, otherwise pages are bright and clean. The publisher's complimentary copy of Flora of Cornwall: Being an Account of the Flowering Plants an…d Ferns found in the County of Cornwall including the Scilly Isles, written by prolific amateur botanist Frederick Hamilton Davey, with a foreword by L.J. Margetts. Published in 1978, first published in 1909. In the publisher's original black cloth, in the original green unclipped dust wrapper. Contains a map frontispiece, and all seven portraits of botanists including Davey. Collated complete. This publisher's complimentary copy contains a letter to the front pastedown, publisher Andrew Gill's signature, and two additional plates to the rear of Edgar Thurston and C.C. Vigurs, their signatures reproduced by photographic technician Tim Colburn from Bristol University. Since 1909, a rapid development in science and technology has revived great interest in the countryside, with this particular study listing a comprehensive list of species from Cornwall, some of which are now tragically extinct. Unlike the original, flowers which Davey mistakenly created are acknowledged as not existing. In the publisher's original black cloth, in the original green unclipped dust wrapper.
