The red thread is the theme of the imprint, a privileged subject in the artist's research, which can be found throughout the entire span of his production: from the work Alpi Marittime of 1968, the first experimentation of direct contact between body and forest, to the series Impronte di luce (2022-2023). Published on the occasion of the exhibition at the Ferrero Foundation, the monograph delves into the theme of the imprint, ranging from drawing to photography, from modelling to carving in an accurate compendium of the vast selection of genres and techniques tackled by the artist. The motif of the imprint becomes in Giuseppe Penone's vision synonymous with contact between different surfaces and finds its own ideal manifestation in nature, understood as a global ecosystem of which every element is an integral part, from the human being to the leaves, from the trees to the earth. Il motivo dell'impronta diviene nella visione di Giuseppe Penone sinonimo di contatto tra superfici differenti e trova una propria manifestazione ideale nella natura, intesa come ecosistema globale di cui ogni elemento è parte integrante, dall'essere umano alle foglie, dagli alberi alla terra. Giuseppe Penone è il più giovane degli artisti italiani, o residenti in Italia, ricondotti all'"Arte Povera" dal curatore e critico d'arte Germano Celant. Nella sua arte, il processo di attuazione è parte integrante dell'opera e sono le azioni compiute dall'artista in rapporto dialettico con quelle naturali che danno forma alla materia.
