De hecho, lo que se describe de las gentes y de ese estilo de vida rural, centrado principalmente en los años que van desde los 60 hasta los 80, es extensible a todas las zonas rurales de la provincia de Almería. Son biografías anónimas de miles de personas que vivieron del campo en los cortijos, de la agricultura y ganadería familiar de subsistencia, en una tierra y clima ferozmente áridos, trabajando todos y cada uno de los días del año de ôprimera luz a última luzö, en tiempos en que no había agua corriente, ni luz eléctrica (los candiles), ni gas, ni calefacción (la lumbre), ni casi carreteras (básicamente eran senderos para los animales, y las personas). Familias injustamente olvidadas, salvo en la memoria de unas cuantas personas mayores, muy mayores, que aún se sientan en el poyo y recuerdan; gentes que cuidaron del campo para subsistir, y que gracias a ellas el campo subsistió. Porque es gracias a ellas que el desierto aún no lo ha engullido todo. Sería deseable que, cuando las gentes de hoy vean los bancales en terrazas, o las cañadas con unos cuantos olivos o almendros sufrientes, en las laderas empinadas de los cerros, sostenidas por ribazos, algunos íntegros y otros medio caídos o totalmente destruidos, recuerden que ese era el medio de vida de esas familias olvidadas por la historia.
