Georges Guillain, né à Paris en 1876 et mort en 1961, fut un neurologue français dont les travaux ont marqué la neurologie du premier xxe siècle, notamment aux côtés de Barré. Cette notice appartient ainsi à un moment où l'expérience clinique de la Grande Guerre nourrit directement la recherche neurologique et la prise en charge des blessés.

Front cover is detached (present); spine paper is mostly gone; what is left of the spine tends to crumble when the book is handled; binding is brittle and chipped; volume is shaken; interior text block has crack, at which two sections of the book are attached very precariously by threads; text clean. Top fore-edge corner of inside front wrapper has printed label reading, "25 Janvier 1927. Prix sans majoration. 80 Fr. Masson & Cie." A worn, fragile copy with an interesting provenance. 322 p., with 60 full-page illustrations (called "planches" or plates, but technically are not plates because they are included in the pagination). Les auteurs présentent brièvement les conceptions de différents neurologues sur la systématisation de la capsule interne, puis exposent les résultats de leurs propres recherches sur les localisations capsulaires (méthode anatomo-clinique) : "en clinique, on ne peut constater dans la capsule interne aucune localisation segmentaire persistante". Pierre Marie (1853-1940) était alors agrégé de médecine et médecin des hôpitaux (exerçant à Bicêtre). Il obtiendra la chaire de clinique des maladies du système nerveux à la Salpêtrière en 1917.
