Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The global field of contemporary art is shaped by inter-racial conflicts. Alleviative Objects approaches Caribbean art through intersectional entanglements and combines decolonial epistemologies with critical whiteness studies and affect theory in order to rethink `Euro- and U.S.-centric' perspectives on art, race, and class. David Frohnapfel shows how progressive racism in the discourse on Haitian art recenters Whiteness by performing benign, innocent, and heroic identifications with the artist group Atis Rezistans. While the study turns critically towards Whiteness, it also turns away from it and towards the compelling contributions of Haitian curators and artists to the decentralization of contemporary art. Alleviative Objects approaches Caribbean art through the analysis of intersectional entanglements and offers important insight into inter-racial conflicts that shape the global field of contemporary art today. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Softcover. White wraps, [48] pp., one original BW photo tipped in at rear. Text is in German. An odd yet intriguing little book. Begins with a two-page statement by Frohnapfel. Then each one of the next 20 pages of text contains a quote about art, creativitiy, or photography from someone notable, along with a brief bio note. They come from Jeanne Hebuterne, Sarah Kofman, Diane Arbus, Ernst Toller, Nadja, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Theroigne de Mericourt, Henriette Vogel, Mata Hari, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Oscar Wilde, Rosa Luxemburg, Milena Jesenska, Arthur Rimbaud, Giordano Bruno, Lucy Jordan, Jean Amery, Seneca, Klaus Mann, and Joe Orton. All are in German, regardless of the nationality of the speaker. Included are photo references to Frohnapfel's own work. But the only piece that appears is an original BW photo tipped in at the rear cover. On the back of the photo here is written in pencil: "(Galerie Marie Puck-Broodthears, Brussels), 671800 7995136 Doris Frohnapfel." 1 of 800 copies issued with original photograph. VG (Ex-library with no markings, in Like New condition.). …
