Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This edited volume with open access discusses all aspects of uncertainty in climate change research, with a unique emphasis on decision making under uncertainty and the assessment of various uncertainties in the landscape of decision making. By analyzing uncertainty through the lens of decision making, the book seeks to understand and assess the various uncertainties inherent in climate change research, including uncertainties in economic impacts, human health and vulnerability, fluctuations in the physical climate system, changes in infrastructure, and future climate projections. Very little published material exists on the uncertainties regarding vulnerability of different populations to climate change, and so the book characterizes the uncertainty in vulnerability to better formulate solutions to climate change problems in affected populations. The volume will be of interest to students, post-docs, early career scientists, and researchers interested in all aspects of climate change. After an introduction that addresses the issue of uncertainty in general as it pertains to climate change research, the book is divided into 5 main sections. Section 1 focuses on uncertainty in policy and decision making, and how climate-related policy choices impact risk management, impact mitigation, and adaptation. Section 2 discusses uncertainty in climate change impacts, including impacts in agriculture, water resources, transportation infrastructure, and human health and vulnerability. Section 3 analyzes physical climate uncertainties, such as Earth system projections, emissions concentrations, and sea-level rise projections. Section 4 details the methods for quantifying uncertainty from a statistical perspective. Section 5 concludes the volume with discussions on special topics and integrated themes on uncertainty, including ethics and uncertainty, communication, the economics of climate change, and integrated modeling for decision support.…

"Third ed., revised" ; xi, 591 pages : illustrations ; 29 cm. ; LC: GV981 ; OCLC: 51021505 ; ISBN: 0394490207; 9780394490205 LCCN: 75-8244 ; green cloth, scuffed ; no dustjacket ; "Widely regarded as the definitive account of America's love affair with the world's greatest game, this magisterial volume is Herbert Warren Wind's masterpiece." ; "From John Reid, the expatriate Scotsman who imported a set of clubs and balls from St. Andrews in 1888 and built a three-hole course on a cow pasture in Yonkers, New York, to Alan Shepard's six-iron shot on the surface of the moon, The Story of American Golf documents the iconic moments in the sport's first century in the United States. Wind captures legendary players, including C. B. Macdonald, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus, in all their glory, and expertly analyzes the developments in style, equipment, and technique that created the modern game." ; "Originally released in 1948 and revised in 1956 and 1975, Wind's work is the most graceful and thorough history ever published of professional and amateur men's and women's golf in America. From John Reid, the man who introduced the game to this country with three holes carved out of a cow pasture on his New York estate in 1888, to Francis Ouimet's memorable victory in the 1913 U.S. Open, to Bobby Jones' "impregnable quadrilateral" in 1930, to the dawn of the era of Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, and Ben Hogan, Wind covers it all: the personalities, the competition, even swing analyses. This volume introduces the game's first star players, including Bobby Jones, Glenna Collett, Gene Sarazen, and Walter Hagen." ; "Encyclopedic in scope and intimate in detail, The Story of American Golf is both a fitting tribute to the beautiful and fickle game that inspired a national obsession and a testament to Herbert Warren Wind's incomparable talents as a journalist and historian. ; Contents: Sowing the seeds, 1883-1913 -- The apple tree gang -- Before and after St. Andrew's -- C. Single folio sheet folded with docket title to last leaf. Creased & toned. 3, [1]pp. [Philadelphia?] A rare, late-eighteenth century annual report by the Society of Friends. The place of publication is suggested by Evans. "We have this year received several epistles from our Friends of the Yearly Meetings of North and South Carolina and Georgia, of Virginia, of Pennsylvania, of New York, and of New England . The inhabitants of the Continent, dwelling in fertile regions once possessed by different tribes of the Indian natives, are doubtless bound to regard them with benevolence: accordingly, we find our Friends engaged in an undertaking to furnish them with some of the comforts of civilian life. A fund is raising to supply the expense of instructing them in agriculture, in mechanick arts, and in some useful branches of learning." "Respecting the Slave Trade, though we have no good tidings to proclaim, we feel unwilling to pass over it in silence. As a body, we have been among the foremost to expose its turpitude; and, although it doth not appear at present tobe our duty to take any publick step as the advocates of this degraded class of our fellow creatures, we still continue to view the commerce with unremitting abhorrence ." Neuware -This edited volume with open access discusses all aspects of uncertainty in climate change research, with a unique emphasis on decision making under uncertainty and the assessment of various uncertainties in the landscape of decision making. Section 5 concludes the volume with discussions on special topics and integrated themes on uncertainty, including ethics and uncertainty, communication, the economics of climate change, and integrated modeling for decision support.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 288 pp. Englisch.…
