Hardback. Condition: New. In Arabic and Islamic studies, the subject of variance in general and that of textual variation in particular has not been investigated exhaustively so far. In the present book the variation in texts of the "closed transmission" will be studied, focusing on a small corpus of didactic and model poems, wi…th a view to establishing what degree of text stability and change was allowed by the medium manuscript. Categories of variance (relating to work-titles, text, number of verses and their sequence, page-layout, context) and the means of controlling them in the manuscripts of the poems are identified and detailed descriptions of the copies are given. The monograph also includes a presentation of some major traits of the cultural background to the study of Arabic didactic poetry and of its dissemination in which memorization has played a crucial role. The intended readers, editors and other users of manuscripts, are helped to acquaint themselves with the methods employed in the manuscripts to control variation and they are given an overview of the large spectrum of Arabic didactic poetry and of its place in the traditional culture of learning in Islamicate societies.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. English summary: An edition of the Arabic text of al-Qushayris (d. 465/1072) collection of responses, the 'Uyun al-agwiba fi funun al-as'ila, concerning Sufism was published in 2012 as volume 9 of the Arabic Studies Series. It is now followed by the German translation of the 131 questions an…d answers that deal with understanding Sufi texts, to which an introduction and an extensive commentary, in the form of footnotes and indices, has been added. Among other things, the introduction offers a discussion concerning the anonymously cited poets insofar as they can be identified. The discussion shows that the verifiable secular poets are referenced more times than the spiritual poets. This sheds light on the special role that courtly education played in the scholarship of famous theologians and mystics. The notes to the individual textual passages include the evidence of poetic citations as well as their contextualization, details concerning variants and complete verses. In addition to the courtly poets and the instructional Sufi literature, the chief sources, from which the parallels were developed, al-Qushayris great Quranic commentary Lataif al-isarat, as well as the extensive transcriptions made by his son, Abu Nasr Abdarrahim, from the manuscript sources, the Kitab as-sawahid. Both works by al-Qushayri offer a wealth of material that helps to clarify in an authoritative manner the lesser well known text of the collection of responses. Beide Werke der Qusairiya bieten reichhaltiges Material, das geeignet ist, den bisweilen dunklen Text der Responsensammlung autoritativ zu erklaren Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Broschiert. Condition: Sehr gut. 371/982) anzusehen. ISBN 9783899130560 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.

This doctoral dissertation is devoted to research in religious, historical and philological studies on the Sufi of… Shiraz Muhammads Ibn Khafif (died 371/982). The dissertation concentrates on three distinct areas: 1- The biography of Ibn Khafif. 2- Basic traits of the theological and mystical teachings of Ibn Khafif 3- The first edition and translation of the "Book of the Goldem Mean". #21146.
