Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Presumed First Edition. No stated date but the copyright date is 1931. Presumed first edition from this year. xviii, 301pp., frontispiece portrait of the author and many black and white illustrations within the text. This is a book about the cookery of vegetables of all sorts, including fruits served as an accompaniment to meat or fish, or as a separate vegetable course, and also flowers treated in a variety of ways. It is not a book written for vegetarians, for many of the recipes could not be carried out without the use of good, strong, sustaining broth made from the stewed flesh of bird and beast. Its aim is to introduce to the British people many preparations of vegetable food suitable to be served with fish, meat, or poultry, or as a separate course. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with black or very dark green titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the boards. The spine is noticeably browned with a little staining and the spine ends are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the free endpapers. There is no inscription.
