Dopo una ricostruzione delle linee generali della storia della città tra i secoli VI e XV, il volume effettua un riesame complessivo e aggiornaro delle parabole biografiche e cultuali di ciascuno dei santi tardoantichi e medievali afferenti al territorio amerino (con puntate continue quindi anche verso Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Attigliano, Montecastrilli, Acquasparta, etc.), mediante un rimando continuo e insistito alle fonti dirette da cui si traggono dati, interpretazioni e ipotesi. Non poche le novità ermeneutiche che emergono dal raffronto serrato e incrociato dei dati testuali. Nelle Appendici, il volume fornisce l'edizione, spesso critica e comunque filologicamente curata, del corpus delle fonti latine scritte relative ai santi in questione, nonché una discussione sulla tradizione manoscritta: un "patrimonio" documentario davvero prezioso e introvabile allo stato attuale della critica agiologica umbra, venendo così a proporsi come uno strumento assai utile per chiunque intenda mettersi a lavorare in questo campo di studi, o più semplicemente conoscere la storia delle devozioni in questa parte di Umbria meridionale.
