Most observers tend to stress economic incentives as the Mekong states' main motivation in intensifying subregional cooperation. However, it must be acknowledged that non-traditional security (i.e. the broad area of comprehensive security covering non-military areas such as human security, economic security and environmental security) has been an equally if not more important dimension. This book deals with these manifold aspects of cooperation in the GMS from the perspectives of both academics and practitioners.
