Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+ for age. 2nd Edition. Issued in the Cambridge Manuals of Science and Literature series but unlike the usual series black and red cloth binding this is smooth brown leather with gilt pub. logo bottom fr. outer corner and gilt sp. lettering, this is clearly as issued and not a rebinding, there are a few very faint light marks of little consequence and patches of surface sheen loss but clean and unworn. x + 160 + (4, series list); 1913 gift inscription top fr. end-paper and faint tanning hints to end-papers in a few places, otherwise clean, tight and unmarked with brown silk place-marker. Dark green printed jacket unclipped, but a number of flaws, several substantial tears now internally closed with archival tear repair tape, sp. ends chipped and darkish water-stain to top half of spine and adjacent fr. region, price label ghost bottom fr. wraparound, were this post-1920s would rate Fair-Good but given age and scarcity of jackets for this series G+ seems justified, will add protective sleeve when ordered. This 'de luxe' (presumably) binding very scarce apparently. 1st ed. - 1910. 12 cm x 17 cm. …

Add to basketThe two letters each 1p., 4to. Both on aged paper, with wear to left hand margin causing loss to text. In the first letter Lent gives details of 8 of his 17 purchases on that day, adding that 'The Lots sold quite well, a good many co are here, also Bowes, Blackwell, Mc Leis Taylor (Scheurer). Edwards, Pickering & E. Mathews, have marks.' In the second letter he gives details of 5 of his 10 purchases, one of them for 'Mr Butterwick'. He gives details of three commissions which Butterwick left with him, only one of which was successful. Catalogue: 31 + [1]pp., 4to. In brown printed wraps. Aged and worn. Annotated in pencil, with some of the 831 lots priced and named. A sturdy country-house library (the top seller, at £130 to Drayton, was a first edition of Chesterfield's letters). Comparison of the catalogue with Lent's letters gives no indication that the sale was ringed. The only copy of the catalogue on either COPAC or OCLC WorldCat at the British Library. …
