Hardback. Condition: New. Is it true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks? You might not think of yourself as 'old', but the truth is it's no fun feeling left behind by the modern world. Take comfort: you are not alone, as this hilarious book affirms. From chatbots to the metaverse, cold callers to charity chuggers, there seem to be so many more confusing terms and frustrations now. You can't buy a straight coffee anymore; and buying 'a ticket' for anything involves a degree in computer science and a QR code (whatever that is) - it's no wonder we yearn for simpler times. So, lay down your laptop, kiss your mouse adieu and enjoy the funnier side of life with this hilarious - but at times horribly accurate - book, which brings together a whole host of anecdotes, quotes, quips and true stories about the vagaries of life in the modern world.…

Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. A classic piece of American popular music, "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover" was written by lyricist Mort Dixon and composer Harry Woods and first became a hit in 1927. This attractive 1948 edition capitalizes on the enormously successful recording by Frankie Laine, whose portrait appears on the front cover. The song would enjoy multiple revivals throughout the twentieth century, becoming a perennial favorite in popular music, radio, and television. The cover's simple four-leaf clover motif paired with Laine's photograph makes this one of the more recognizable postwar printings. Very Good condition. Complete with all pages present. Covers show moderate age toning, light edge wear, and gentle corner creasing consistent with careful handling. Interior music pages remain clean and fully legible with no writing or musical annotations observed. Rear cover features the original publisher's advertisement for On the Trail: An Album of Cowboy Songs, helping to date this edition to the late 1940s. Although the song debuted in 1927, it found an entirely new audience after Frankie Laine's 1948 recording, which returned it to the bestseller charts and introduced the standard to postwar America. Composer Harry Woods (1896-1970) was one of Tin Pan Alley's most successful songwriters, also responsible for enduring standards such as When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along, Side by Side, and Try a Little Tenderness. This edition captures the moment when a Jazz Age favorite became a mid-century pop standard through one of America's biggest vocal stars.…
