Condition: Worn but good. containing full instructions in all that relates to the breeding, rearing, breaking, kenneling and conditioning of dogs; together with numerous valuable receipts for the treatment of the various diseases to which the canine race is subject. As also a few remarks on guns - their loading and carriage, designed expressly for the use of Young Sportsmen. Stringer & Townsend, New York, 1850, first edition. Illustrated with b&w plates. 5" x 8.75". Decorated red cloth, top two inches of the spine at the front cover hinge chipped, heavily foxed throughout. 62 pp + 4 pp of ads. The cover title is Dinks on Dogs, Ed. by Frank Forester. "Herbert states in the Preface that he 'found it necessary to make no alteration or elision' in this work'" (Van Winkle). Worn, but good.

Half-Leather. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Dogs. Revised edition. Leather spine and corners rubbed and worn, both gutters starting to crack. Front hinge cracked, endpapers foxed, interior clean and tight.

Green covers with gilt design of a dog on front and gilt lettering and design on spine. No DJ. Corners of covers are bumped, worn and starting to split. Ends of spine are worn and frayed, with top end missing a piece. Covers have edge wear. Hinge is starting to split after front cover, and binding is split after title page. Pages have some tanning and some pages have some stains. A price is in upper corner of second page, and name of a previous owner is at top of third page. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 663 pages.

Red gilt stamped and illustrated cloth over boards, a "complete and revised edition," divided into three parts (one each by "Dinks", "Mayhew" and "Hutchinson"), frontispiece and 34 illustrations, some in the text, others full-page, Index, 663 pages, 7 page catalogue for other books by the same publisher, one-page illustrated ad for pistols and rifles. Covers soiled and worn, corners and spine ends bumped with wear, cloth torn at head of spine, both hinges cracked, back cover pulling loose from text block, several spots of foxing in the blank margin of one illustration. Hardcover. Condition: Good+. B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 458 pages; HC In original green cloth boards with decoratively gilt stamped spine cloth laid down on a recent rebacking. Original pale yellow endpages intact. Binding snug; contents complete and very neat. Cloth corners lightly bumped; a short, very shallow divot (about 1/2 in length) out of the front edge of the rear board. Rebacked spine has been done professionally but using a rather heavy buckram underneath the original cloth spine panel. Two lengths of cloth tape carefully applied in the gutters of the front and rear endpages. Contents VG+ in a resored binding that preserves most of the original case. Overall G++.
