Cloth, small 8vo, 128, 36 pp. This is a facsimile reprint of the first substantial catalogue of British railway books, which was originally issued in 1893 and sold at one shilling a copy . It includes also the title and subject index which appeared in an 1895 supplement. The catalogue itemizes some 500 works on trains, railways, and railway engineering dating back to the days of the earliest steam locomotives, with most entries being very interestingly annotated by the compiler to place them in their historical context so that, for example, a description of an early prospectus might include a comment on the subsequent fortunes of the railway company concerned. Very interesting not just for the descriptions of the early railway rarities and the sidelights on train and transport history, but also for the prices the books and pamphlets were commanding by the end of the nineteenth century. Very Good in dustwrapper, save for two numbers on front panel of dustwrapper, and stamp and number on front free endpaper.
Paperback. Condition: Brand New. 128 pages. 9.13x6.46x0.39 inches. In Stock.
