The first edition of The Life of Wiclif, a biography on the scholastic philosopher within the English Reformation, written by English clergyman Chalres Webb Le Bas. No.1 in the Theological Library series In full soft leatherette from the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. Contains an engraved frontispiece of Wycliffe by Thomas Anthony Dean. A praiseworthy biography of John Wycliffe, who was described as 'The Morning Star' of the English Reformation, with his ideas inspiring the later Lollards, and originating over one hundred years before England separation from the Catholic Church. Wycliffe regualrly contribued to the British Critic, and was the principal of the East India Company College. In full soft leatherette. Externally, mostly smart, with rubbing to joints and edges, heaviest to top extremity of front board, and the odd faint handling mark. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. End papers are bright and clean with a couple of faint spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are mostly bright and clean, with minor signs of browning to first couple and last leaves. Browning to frontispiece. Very Good. book.
