A superb binding executed by Stuart Brockman, for the celebrated Wardington collection of atlases, which contained many designer bindings commissioned by Lord Wardington. Stuart Brockman (b.1972) is the son of the bookbinder James Brockman. Trained by his father and now working alongside him in Oxfordshire, Stuart was elected as a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders in 2004, and has taught workshops and lectured around the world. His bindings are held by the British Library and several private collections, and he has won numerous prizes including the 2004 National Library of Scotland Elizabeth Soutar bookbinding competition. With Brockman's binder's ticket dated 1996 to the front free endpaper verso, and Wardington's bookplate to the rear pastedown; the book is a later printing of The Times's popular world atlas. Folio (305 x 218 mm). Colour maps and illustrations throughout. Red morocco by Stuart Brockman, spine lettered in gilt, covers panelled with inlaid strapwork design in black and green morocco and tooled in gilt and blind, small gilt crest in corners and spine ends, marbled endpapers, gilt edges. A fine copy.
