paperback. Condition: Very Good. Tempus Pub Ltd [Published Date: 2000]. Soft cover, 128 pp. First Edition. In very good condition. Black and white pictorial paper covers have light bumping to edges and light overall scuffing. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Black and white illustrations. [From back cover] The Black Watch Regimental Archives contain many thousands of photographs graphically illustrating the history of this famous Highland regiment since the first images were recorded some 150 years ago. Over two hundred of these pictures have been selected for this volume to represent different aspects of regimental life both home and abroad, in peace and at war. From the days when the infantry still practised forming squares to the hand over of Hong Kong, the last significant remnant of the Empire, in 1997, this collection provides a fascinating insight into the activities of the Regiment. Naturally, many of the Regiment's great heroes and characters appear in these pictures but so do many other famous people, members of the royal family, Presidents of the United States of America and other heads of state. The collection of photographs also covers the Territorial battalions of the Black Watch from their early days as Rifle Volunteers through the two World Wars during which they won such renown for the Regiment.

Add to basketCondition: New. 2005 N&M Press reprint (of original 1906 pub). SB. vii + 59pp with 14 maps in colourPublished Price £14.50 A concise history of perhaps the most decisive campaign of the Peninsula War. The authorâs stated intention is to establish a broad framework of the 1812 campaign in Spain so that students of military history can draw from it âlessons which may be useful in the futureâ. He argues that the Salamanca campaign was particularly interesting because the two sides were evenly matched. Marindin sets the scene with a brief account of Wellingtonâs storming of Ciudad Roderigo and Badajoz and his eventual advance on Salamanca. He then recounts the duel between Wellington and Marshals Soult and Marmont for the Salamanca forts; and the preliminary moves be both sides before the battle itself on July 22nd. The book concludes with a discussion of the lessons to be learned from the battle, and there are appendices on Wellingtonâs orders to his troops after the battle, the French order of battle, and writings on the engagement by other authorities: Napier, Alison, Marmont and Thiers. The book is well illustrated by detailed maps.
