Esta visión se alcanza transcendiendo el conocimiento l ; ; conceptual, donde lo conocido se conoce como un objeto,/hacia una contemplación mística, sin diferencia entre el contemplador, la contemplación y lo contemplado (coincidencia de las miradas o mirar a la cara). Que esta identificación supone una transformación del hombre entero, es lo que Beierwaltes ha llamado «espiritualidad». Y tránsito, porque dicha contemplación sólo se alcanza como término final de un proceso, es decir, en una transcendencia; y porque históricamente el Cusano, al igual que Durero -y que Brueguel-, articula el eje entre la edad antigua y la edad moderna. Este atravesar el concepto para poder transcenderlo precipita en una obra filosófica, que Beierwaltes designa como «reflexión metafísica». -- Wemer Beierwaltes (1931) es catedrático emérito de Filosofía en la Universidad de Munich. Especializado en filosofía griega, y sobre todo en el neoplatonismo y su influencia en la Edad Media y la modernidad, es miembro de diversas Academias de las Ciencias, y presidente de la Cusanus-Kommission de la Academia de las Ciencias de Heidelberg. Entre sus obras destacan: Plotin. Über Ewigkeit und Zeit, 1967; Platonismos und Idealismos, 1972; Identitat and Differenz, 1980; Denken des Einen, 1985; Platonimos im Christentom, 1998; Das wahre Selbst, 2001. -- La colección de Pensamiento Medieval y Renacentista trata de poner a disposición del público filosófico las obras más significativas de lógica, ética, metafísica y psicología, producidas por pensadores como Vives, Soto, Báñez, Medina, Zumel, Mas, Ledesma, Araújo, Briceño, Veracruz y tantos otros que dieron prestigio a las Universidades en las que enseñaron, como Salamanca, Alcalá o México.
