Kitabin esasini olusturan çalisma 1978-80 yillari arasinda, biri Orta Anadolu'da biri Bati Anadolu'da iki ilçe örgütünde yapilmistir. 1984 yilinda Ingiltere'de Kent Üniversitesi'de doktora tezi olarak sunulmustur. 1980'li yillarda bu tezi tercüme ettirmeyi düsünmedim. O dönemde CHP yasakliydi, böyle bir tezim bilim disi amaçlarla kullanilabileceginden endiselendim. Son yillarda ise CHP ve SHP örgütü tartismalarinin artmasiyla ve özellikle 1994'de SHP'nin hezimetiyle biten seçim sonuçlarinin CHP mirasini yeniden gündeme getirmesiyle bu arastirmayi tercüme ettirip bastirmaya karar verdim.
