Paperback. Condition: New. Alfred N. Hambrook was a stationer and printer whose shop in Snodland High Street served the community for around fifty years from 1901. His postcards of Snodland and district are well known. Together with his brother Percy he produced a great number of other views, especially in the first quarter of the century. 'H Bros S' (Hambrook Brothers, Snodland) identifies much of their work, often produced commercially for different villages or towns. This book concentrates on an area of mid Kent all within about a dozen miles of Snodland. Alfred was also general manager of Stedman and Co. in West Malling for a time. Hambrook and Stedman each contributed to the 'Kent Series' of coloured postcards from around 1905 and examples from the series are included in this book. Hambrook was a good photographer and his images show a way of life and a landscape now much changed by the trappings of modern society.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This book is the first in a two-volume study of Jenkins and his music. After a full biographical introduction, it concerns itself exclusively with the superb consorts for viols which dominate the early part of the composer's career. Indeed, it is probably the first book ever published to deal only with music for viol consort. It is profusely illustrated with music examples, and virtually every work receives individual comment. After the quatercentenary of Jenkins' birth in 1992 and with an increasing number of recordings of his music now available, this study will serve the awakened interest in his music as a major contribution in promoting the music of a man acknowledged in his time as 'the ever Famous and most Excellent Composer, in all sorts of Modern Musick'. This first volume of a projected two volume study of the music of John Jenkins concentrates exclusively on his consorts for viols. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
