La révolution de 1830 mit un terme à son projet car seuls ces quatre départements de la Provence parurent.Le contenu de chaque département, illustré de deux portraits en lithographie, est divisé en deux parties. La première est une notice historique au travers des siècles, la seconde présente, par ordre alphabétique, la vie des hommes vivants ou de ceux "dont le souvenir est encore récent". Edition originale. Pour Andraud, l'air comprimé était une énergie dont la force était destinée à changer la face du monde. Inventeur visionnaire, il développa un… système d'automobiles utilisant de l'air comprimé comme système de propulsion, l'air était amené d'abord par des conduites le long du trajet, puis par des réservoirs. Le 26 août 1844, Andraud et Tessié du Motay lancèrent sur la ligne de Paris-Versailles (Rive-gauche) une nouvelle « locomotive-waggon » à air comprimé. Pesant cinq tonnes et ressemblant à une chaudière cylindrique. Tel que le représentent les gravures du présent ouvrage, Andraud projetait de concurrencer les chemins de fer par des "chemins éoliques". C'est en fait dans les réseaux de tramways, après la mort d'Andraud, que la propulsion par air comprimé fut développée dans les années 1860-1870. Envoi manuscrit de l'auteur sur la couverture. First edition. For Andraud, compressed air was an energy whose force was destined to change the face of the world. A visionary inventor, he developed a system of automobiles using compressed air as a propulsion system, the air was brought first by pipes along the route, then by tanks. On August 26, 1844, Andraud and Tessié du Motay launched on the Paris-Versailles line (Left Bank) a new compressed air "locomotive-waggon". Weighing five tons and resembling a cylindrical boiler. As represented in the engravings in this book, Andraud planned to compete with the railways with "air-powered railways". It was in fact in the tramway networks, after Andraud's death, that compressed air propulsion was developed in the 1860s-1870s Presentation copy.
