Thematische Vielfalt ist dabei selbstverständlich: Probleme der Neolithisierung werden ebenso dargestellt wie einzelne charakteristische Erscheinungen der Domestikation der Haustiere, die ägyptische Expansion nach Nubien und den Sudan, die Verbreitung der altassyrischen Handelskolonien in Anatolien und die Topographie des Großreiches Davids. Die Präsenz von Griechen und Römern im Vorderen Orient findet ihren Niederschlag in zahlreichen Karten, auf denen nicht nur der Zug Alexanders des Großen in all seiner Ausdehnung und Verästelung gezeigt werden kann, sondern auch die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Griechen und Persern, Römern und Parthern, Römern und Sasaniden.
