Nathan J. Palpant

Nathan Palpant is a research scientist at the University of Washington Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. He received his bachelors degree from Whitworth University in 2001 and his PhD in Molecular and Integrative Physiology from the University of Michigan in 2009. Dr. Palpant's research interests are focused on mechanisms that govern fate choices in lateral plate mesoderm development. These studies have implications for studies in heart and blood development. Dr. Palpant has published his studies in a wide range of journals including Nature, Physiological Genomics, Cardiovascular Research, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Gene Therapy and elsewhere. His interests in bioethics include the social and translational implications of genetic engineering and stem cell technologies. Together with Ronald Green (Dartmouth), Dr. Palpant is publishing a second edited volume on Suffering and Bioethics through Oxford University Press (Forthcoming).
