Jose L. Ayala

José L. Ayala got a M.S. in Telecommunications Engineering from Politecnica University of Madrid in 2001, and a M.S. in Physics from the Open University of Spain in 2002. After that, he pursued his PhD on Electronic Engineering at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Politecnica University of Madrid, getting in 2005 the ``cum laude'' qualification and the award for the ``best PhD dissertation''.

From that time, he has been actively working on research in the area of embedded systems design, with an special focus on the optimization of these systems for power and energy consumption, as well as thermal dissipation. In particular, he has developed hardware customizations for the power reduction and thermal optimization of embedded processors; he has provided compiler transformations for the reduction of thermal-driven reliability factors in the register file of complex microprocessor architectures; and he has proposed run-time OS-managed policies for the liquid-based cooling of multiprocessor systems.

Prof. Ayala has collaborated and works with several professors of international universities: Prof. Alexander Veidenbaum from University of California Irvine, Prof. Luca Benini from University of Bologna, Prof. Giovanni de Micheli from EPFL, Prof. Francky Katthoor from IMEC, and so on. Also, he has spent several years in these institutions to gain expertise and work on the common research fields.

He has published numerous journal and conference papers that support his research. He also counts with several book chapters and international patents, and he has given various tutorials and invited talks in high quality conferences. Prof. Ayala is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Architecture in the Complutense University of Madrid, and a Permanent Visiting Professor at EPFL Switzerland. He is a member of CEDA (Council for Electronic Design Automation), IEEE, IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing), TPC and Organizing Committee of several international conferences (VLSI-SoC, GLSVLSI, etc.).
