No date - 1914-15? as it refers to the amalgamation of northern and southern Nigeria in 1914 as happening between the book's writing and it's publication. Original blue cloth with gilt lettering on front and spine. xxiii plus 361pp with photographs by the author. Corners and spine ends bumped and front board slightly cupped. Contents tight with some light foxing throughout. The author was the Travel Editor of "The African World", and had travelled extensively through Northern Nigeria and book is illustrated with his photos.

In overall good-to-very good used condition with minor signs of age, handling and storage - red cloth boards slightly rubbed and faded to spine, with a couple of faint marks. Internally clean. Binding tight - first front endpaper has been neatly removed; no inscriptions - red pencil underlining to several passages, ownerâs bookplate to front pastedown and small press clippings on the âAfrica questionâ tipped-in to rear endpaper; light foxing to page-ends but text and illustrations (from the author's photographs) bright and clear throughout. Colour fronts retains tissue-paper guard. Not an old library book.

In very good condition, ends of spine and corners lightly bumped and slightly worn, page edges spotted, pencil inscriptions, including owner's name, on front endpapers, otherwise very bright, tight and clean. 361pp including a preface and comprehensive index, illustrated with 60 black and white photographs and a colour frontispiece, protected with a tissue guard, all taken by the author, the late Travel Editor of 'The African World'.

Covers a little rubbed and marked, a good copy of the first edition in the publisher's red cloth.
