The plate associated with page 142 is loose. No dustjacket. Bookplate of Ernest Francis Leslie Ellis pasted onto front pastedown. Lower board rubbed and partially soiled. Front hinge cracked but the upper board is stable. Pastedowns and endpapers lightly tanned. First and last dozen or so pages lightly foxed. Overall, the book is in a good+ condition.

Each chapter heading has a small b/w decoration with the first letter of the text decorated and a small decoration ends each chapter. The boards are brown with Three Commders set on a band of gilt with a gilt anchor through the middle; rifles, swords and author also appear impressed onto the boards. very slight wear to corners.
