Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity II: Lorentz Transformations Introduction The Lorentz Transformations Transformation Laws for the Components of the Momentum Vector Addition of Velocities Problems. References. Index. Special Theory of Relativity and Quantum Theory are considered as the two major revolutions of the 20th century. Roger Penrose wrote "Albert Einstein had such extra-ordinary deep perceptions of the workings of Nature that he laid foundation stones for both of these twentieth century revolutions in the single year of 1905". The year 1905 was Einstein's Annus Mirabilis (Year of Miracles) when he was working, in almost total isolation, in the Swiss Patent Office. In this small book, the author - Ajoy Ghatak gives the basic physics and consequences of his revolutionary contributions in his Year of Miracles: E=mc2, The Light Quantum & Special Theory of Relativity.

"This is a textbook on the fundamental theortical ideas and techniques of modern physics- those embodied in special relativity and quantum theory. Although this book is intended to stand alone as a text, it may be used effectively in a course…that parallels a course on the phenomenology of modern physics, or it can be used in a course in which the material in the last third of this book is interwined with the phenomenology." Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Special relativity and quantum mechanics are likely to remain the two most important languages in physics for many years to come. The underlying language for both disciplines is group theory. Eugene P. Wigner's 1939 paper on the Unitary Representat…ions of the Inhomogeneous Lorentz Group laid the foundation for unifying the concepts and algorithms of quantum mechanics and special relativity. In view of the strong current interest in the space-time symmetries of elementary particles, it is safe to say that Wigner's 1939 paper was fifty years ahead of its time. This edited volume consists of Wigner's 1939 paper and the major papers on the Lorentz group published since 1939. . This volume is intended for graduate and advanced undergraduate students in physics and mathematics, as well as mature physicists wishing to understand the more fundamental aspects of physics than are available from the fashion-oriented theoretical models which come and go. The original papers contained in this volume are useful as supplementary reading material for students in courses on group theory, relativistic quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, relativistic electrodynamics, general relativity, and elementary particle physics. This reprint collection is an extension of the textbook by the present editors entitled 'Theory and Applications of the Poincare Group.' Since this book is largely based on the articles contained herein, the present volume should be viewed as a reading for the previous work. continuation of and supplementary We would like to thank Professors J. Bjorken, R. Feynman, R. Hofstadter, J.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Klein Gordon equation (Klein Fock Gordon equation or sometimes Klein Gordon Fock equation) is a relativistic version of the Schrödinger equation. It is the equation of motion of a quantum sc…alar or pseudoscalar field, a field whose quanta are spinless particles. It cannot be straightforwardly interpreted as a Schrödinger equation for a quantum state, because it is second order in time and because it does not admit a positive definite conserved probability density. Still, with the appropriate interpretation, it does describe the quantum amplitude for finding a point particle in various places, the relativistic wavefunction, but the particle propagates both forwards and backwards in time. Any solution to the Dirac equation is automatically a solution to the Klein Gordon equation, but the converse is not true.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Before the creation of quantum field theory, physicists attempted to formulate versions of the Schrödinger equation which were compatible with special relativity. Such equations are called rela…tivistic wave equations. The first such equation was discovered by Erwin Schrödinger himself; however, he realized that this equation, now called the Klein-Gordon equation, gave incorrect results when used to calculate the energy levels of hydrogen. Schrödinger discarded his relativistic wave equation, only to realize a few months later that its non-relativistic limit (what is now called the Schrödinger equation) was still of importance.
