(1st-1859). xv+368, woodcut ill.headpiece of the Solar System to beginning of chapter 1., a few small text figs, numbered to 5 but quite a few others too; very light scattered bowning to t.p.,+ occ. spots elsewhere of little significance , prev.owner's 1976-dated sig. & small gilt addre…ss label to front pastedown, otherwise internally clean tight & unmarked. Privately rebound at some point (mid-20th cent.) with new blank endpapers (no orig.endpapers present), covers clean and unworn but a few trivial spots of slight pigment loss, gilt-lettered spine label. A bizarre but pathetically devout treatise dedicated to the Virgin Mary in honour of the miraculous cure of his wife (see Dedication (pp.iii-v). At one point he claims the Moon's craters are the lenses of giant telescopes used to observe goings on on Earth (pp.157-8). Original editions apparently extremely scarce. Note: quoted shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range.
