La seva vida personal, i especialment les seves tumultuoses relacions amb els homes, van alimentar en gran part la seva escriptura. La literatura d?Uno va aconseguir un públic fidel, sobretot entre les lectores de la segona meitat del segle XX, que trobaven una sensació d?alliberament en les seves històries d?amors escandalosos narrades amb una prosa subtil, precisa i elegant.
