This book grew out of lectures delivered to the Haileybury Natural Science Society. The contents are in good, although spotty condition; tyhe cover is faded and worn.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First American edition. Octavo. xvi, 272pp. Heavily illustrated with plates. Rebound into forest green buckram with spine titled in gilt. Owner stamp and signature of a noted American psychologist on the front fly. Binding a trifle cocked and spine modestly sunned, first few leaves with some foxing and a couple of other instances of foxing throughout, one page spread with some offsetting from a newspaper article once laid in, very good and sound. One the whole, the text has been very nicely preserved.

A nice copy of private provenance.

Marbled edges, marbled endpapers, photographic frontispiece, photographic and illustrated plates, index. There is a previous owner's book plate on the front fixed endpaper and the interior pages are lightly speckled. "This book has grown out of lectures delivered to the Haileybury Natural Science Society. From the nature of the case, therefore, it aims at being intelligible without the help of much preliminary knowledge. Some of the lectures, however, were delivered to a small number of the elder members of the society, and the subject matter of some of these was in itself rather difficult. My object has been, not to shirk difficult questions, to make them clear to anyone who will give his attention to the subject" - from the Preface.
